La NHL ha i Vegas Golden Knights, la NFL dal 2020 vedrà il ricollocamento degli Oakland Raiders, ora la WNBA sposta le Stars da San Antonio a Las Vegas, città del Nevada che ora ha due franchigie professionistiche, in attesa del football.
Bill Laimbeer, ex giocatore dei Detroit Pistons, sarà presidente e coach delle Stars. La proprietaria è la famiglia che possiede la MGM, rete di casinò; affiancano la catena Mohegan Sun che sponsorizza la franchigia delle Connecticut Sun.
